Pennywise It The actual embodiment of fear, Pennywise is probably the most purely terrifying character in the King canon. The terrifying clown appears to emerge every 30 years to terrorize the children of Derry, Maine, and he understands exactly what most scares them. It’s a credit to the 2017 adaptation, in particular, that it understands exactly how terrifying a child’s fears can be.
